[Excerpt from PavleBukhritidze’s(one of the defendants tried in connection with the August 29, 1995 incident)testimony]

page 331: “ I went to the law enforcement authorities myself and apparently I was wanted. I was at home as usual and was not in hiding. When I showed up they called Tbilisi and told me we have to take you to Tbilisi. They brought me to the Ministry, had me meet with Kviraia, who said,‘Is this that peasant?’

Then he asked me, did Gelashvili put the vest on you? I was surprised, what vest he was talking to me about. Then he took me to another room and started to tell me ‘they told me about you that they put the vest on you and you were going to detonate it to kill Shevardnadze and not radiation’, like there was supposed to be a bomb there. He then took out a “Steckin” [revolver] hit me with it and broke my upper left tooth. This was October 13, 1995. Then we left that room, he brought me pictures of some people and asked me if I knew them. I told them I didn’t know them.

Then he told me would I call Giga Gelashvili. I was relieved and said I would call. "Let him call", he told the boys, they took me upstairs and connected me to electric shock, then they tied me to a heater and everyone who entered the room hit me on my head.

They were telling me I had to testify against Khachishvili and Giorgadze. I had never met either Khachishvili or Giorgadze in my life. Then they started to brutally beat me. I did not scream and that angered them even more. On the 13th they beat me with the leg of a chair, which was wrapped with a wet towel. They beat me with batons. I have a hemorrhage; my heart area is practically atrophied. “
